Ability Dogs is seeking compassionate, dedicated individuals to foster our future canine heroes. Here’s what it takes to be the perfect fit:
Commitment to Learning: Dedicate yourself to weekly training classes for about 30 weeks, including both group sessions and individual instruction as the transfer approaches.
Embracing Our Philosophy: Our success is rooted in positive reinforcement. We’ve developed a training method that is critical for a service dog’s success. While we offer unwavering support, we count on our fosters to apply these principles consistently in daily life.
A Dog-Friendly Household: It’s essential that any dogs currently in your home are friendly and welcoming to new canine companions.
Flexibility: We need fosters who can ensure the dog is not left alone for more than 4 hours at a time. Ideal candidates are those who are retired, work from home, or have flexible schedules that allow for ample time with their foster dog.
Being Prepared for Goodbyes: Fostering involves nurturing a young dog and treating it like your own while understandng you will have to say goodbye. This requires emotional strength, as it’s both a challenge and a profound act of love, knowing the significant impact your foster dog will have on someone’s life.
