From energetic pet to dedicated helper, meet Gia, a Spinone Italiano with a heart as big as her aspirations. This spirited canine is currently training with her handler and Ability Dogs instructors to be a hearing dog, and her journey is nothing short of inspiring.

Before her training began, Gia (affectionately known as “il mio piccolo mostro” or "my little monster") enjoyed the simple joys of life as a beloved family pet. Now, as part of the Ability Dogs program, she's also channeling her innate intelligence and effervescent personality into learning vital skills to assist those with hearing impairments.

Gia's transformation showcases the incredible versatility and adaptability of dogs, demonstrating that with the right training, even pets can evolve into indispensable service animals. Her most notable achievements include mastering the art of maintaining composure around strangers and developing impressive impulse control—essential traits for any service dog.

Bird watching may be her favorite pastime, but Gia is just as focused when it comes to her service dog training. She's already made significant strides by passing her Canine Good Citizen test, a testament to her and her handler's dedication.

At Ability Dogs, we're excited to witness and support Gia's progression. She's not just learning to perform tasks; she's becoming a lifeline for someone who will rely on her sharp senses and steadfast presence. Gia's story is a beautiful reminder of the boundless potential in every dog and the profound impact they can have as companions and helpers. We will check in on Gia later this year as she continues her journey.
